What Is Composite Bonding?
Composite Bonding (or a composite filling) is a process in which a mixture of quartz or glass filler is mixed into a resin medium which produces a filling that looks just like a natural tooth. Long are the days when the only option for a filling were gold or other base metals. With composite bonding, you can take solace in knowing that you are going to be leaving your dental appointment with a very natural looking smile.
It is important to note that composite bonding is not useful in every situation. While composite fillings do provide excellent durability, they are not as strong or as durable as metal fillings. Because of these reasons in some instances, you may need to return to the dentist to have your filling repaired or replaced. Because of the amount of stress we put on our teeth from chewing, clenching, athletics, and other means it is possible that your fillings can also chip away. If you believe that you have a loose filling or are experiencing unusual pressure around a tooth that has a filling, you should speak to your dentist as soon as possible. The cause of this pressure or strange feelings can stem from food particles and other bacteria working its way between your tooth and the filling. If this situation is left untreated you may be subject to an infection which can lead to a tooth abscess which can lead to tooth extractions or root canals.
